A CAT’s Tale — FAQ2014
Frequently Asked Questions
1. How much does it cost? How can I pay?
Admission is $5 for children age 2 and up. One adult is admitted free with each children’s ticket.
Examples:
Bringing just your 9-year-old son? That’ll be $5 for him, your ticket is free.
Bringing just your 18-month old daughter? She’s free, your ticket is $5.
Bringing both of your children? $5 for your 9-year-old son, your 18-month-old daughter is free, you’re admitted free with your son’s ticket.
Bringing both of your children and your spouse? That’s $5 for your son, your daughter is free, you’re admitted free with your son’s ticket, and your spouse will need a ticket for $5. ($10 total)
We will accept cash and credit cards at the event. Advanced tickets are now available on the “A CAT’s Tale” website.
2. How do I get to The Arboretum? Where do I park?!
The Arboretum is conveniently located on UK’s campus, at 500 Alumni Drive across from Commonwealth Stadium. FREE Parking will be available at UK Stadium (exact location TBD), and parking attendants will be on site to assist you, both in parking, and in safely crossing Alumni with your children!
3. Will it be a lot of walking?
Wear comfy shoes! The activity centers will be placed along a 1/4-mile stretch of the Arboretum’s walking trail. That’s not far for the big kids, but little ones might appreciate a stroller! The walking trail, and the activity centers, are stroller and wheel-chair accessible. If at any time you need assistance, feel free to ask one of our wonderful volunteers!
4. How long will it take?
We recommend planning on at least one hour to experience all of the activity centers, more if you plan to meet our featured authors and get your books signed. We know it’s difficult with little ones! So, feel free to return if your little ones need a break; your readmission will be honored when you leave.
5. Will there be food/drinks? Will anything else be for sale?
Double H Barbeque will be on site to sell food and drink! Books will also be on sale, including the books featured in the activity centers and for the author signings. Or bring your own copy!
6. Is this a Halloween event? Should the kids wear costumes?
While this isn’t intended to be a Halloween event (it’s a celebration of children’s books), it does involve the most fun thing about Halloween — dressing up! (Okay, the second-most fun thing… obviously huge bags of candy is the most fun. But, sorry, there will be no candy here!) We encourage our attendees to dress-up (Adults too! We like to dress up!), particularly as their favorite book character! We will have many volunteers in costumes for the children’s enjoyment, and you are welcome to stop them for photo-ops. So bring your cameras too! We will have some giveaways for the kids to pick up along the way, but it will be healthy/educational. (We’re a healthcare advocacy organization, after all!)
7. I’ve already bought tickets. What if it rains?
This is a rain-or-shine event. Unless weather conditions are dangerous (i.e. lightning, flooding, hail, high winds, Sharknadoes, etc.), the event will go on! So, if it’s raining, bring your rain gear and dress as Paddington Bear! If the unthinkable happens, and the event is canceled, we will not be offering refunds for pre-purchased tickets, but instead will honor the ticket for A CAT’s Tale 2015 and provide prepaid ticket holders with a bag full of the activities and giveaways provided at the event.
